Error configuring ODBC data source
For the first time I experimented this issue on a PC trying to run Microsoft Project for the first time. The error message indicates “Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source: MS Access Database. ODBC error 6: Component not found in the registry. Verify that the file MS Access Database exists and that you can access it. “
Then I found out this is caused by either a corrupt registry entry or simply the entry is missing. To fix it, the easiest method would be to import the registry subkeys from another computer.
- From a computer or user profile without Error 1919, go to registry edit (Start > Run > Regedit) and export (File > Export) the following and save it into a temp networked folder, or USB drive:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | ODBC
-
On the computer with Error 1919, open up registry edit, Import (File > Import) and select the the exported registry file.
Make sure to do the registry import while logged on as the problem user, grant temporary admin access if necessary. Once that’s done, the error message will go away.

Tank you so much for your help with this error. It was a clean and simple way of explaining on what to do.
I had tried Microsoft’s method as well, which is basically the same as yours but did not work for me.
Again thank you I now can read my emails again without having to click on cancel all the time.

I’m glad this post was helpful to you, hopefully to others with similar issues as well.
Good luck!
I applied the fix and it did not take, but I failed to log on as the problem user. How do you do that?
Thanks, I am sure this will work once I get it right.
Napolean,
Can you give me more details? Is the problem user account an administrator? You failed to login meaning you don’t know the password?
